This is even if you have paid the purchase off when you see it on your statement. Instead, the provider will take any payment you make off the balance transfer. The purchase gets paid off last.
The rule is, never use your card for more than one purpose. Have one for balance transfers and one for purchases. That way you won’t get caught out.
